Heartbreaking Tragedy: Toddler Dies After Mom Denies Food for Two Days, Blames Migraine 😢 In a devastating case out of Missouri, a toddler has tragically died from severe malnutrition after being denied food for nearly two full days.
Alyssa Nicole Wehmeyer, 21, was arrested and charged with abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death. The shocking incident took place in Cape Girardeau, about 115 miles southeast of St. Louis.
Authorities discovered that the one-year-old child hadn't eaten for approximately 43 hours, with very little evidence of food found in the stomach during the autopsy. The Cape Girardeau Police Department found the child's body on February 28th and sought assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol for the investigation.
Wehmeyer told police that the child had last eaten on February 26th and was put to bed around 6:30 p.m. the following day. She held the crying child for 30 to 40 minutes around 2 a.m. on February 28th but didn't check on them again until 1 p.m. that day when she found the child not breathing with blue lips.
The severe blisters on the child's buttocks from diaper rash indicated that it had been nearly 19 hours since the diaper was last changed. Wehmeyer admitted that she should have taken the child to the doctor and changed the diaper more regularly but blamed her inaction on a migraine.
This case highlights the dire consequences of neglect and the importance of seeking medical attention for children in need. The toddler's death is a tragic reminder of the responsibilities parents have in ensuring their children's well-being.
