Family Fried Chicken PH Review: Aesthetic & Affordable? This Chicken Is 10/10! ๐✨ If you think you have already tasted the best fried chicken the Philippines has to offer, I am here to tell you that you are probably wrong and your taste buds deserve an apology.
The food scene in Metro Manila is absolutely saturated with over-hyped, over-priced, and under-seasoned options that rely more on marketing than actual flavor. We have all been there, standing in a long mall line for a chicken meal that ends up being dry, bland, and frankly depressing. That is exactly why my recent trip to Robinsons Metro East felt like a fever dream in the best way possible. I walked into a place called Family Fried Chicken, and I am not exaggerating when I say it might be the best culinary discovery of the year. First of all, let us talk about the vibe because the interior design is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. It has this gorgeous minimalist Korean-inspired aesthetic with clean white wooden furniture and these sharp green accents that make the whole place feel expensive and fresh. It is so clean, so organized, and so "aesthetic" that you would expect to pay five hundred pesos just for an appetizer, but that is where the surprise begins.
The menu is a brilliant fusion of Chinese and Filipino comfort food, which is basically the ultimate love language for any local foodie. I started my journey with the Quarter Chicken Sarap, which clocks in at a very reasonable 210 pesos. For that price, you get a generous portion of chicken and rice, but the real magic is in the texture. This is not that generic, crusty-but-empty chicken you find at fast-food joints. This chicken is incredibly soft, remarkably juicy, and packed with a unique savory profile that I can only describe as "special yumminess." It does not need to hide behind a mountain of breading because the meat itself is actually seasoned. But wait, it gets better. This solo meal comes with a literal trio of sauces. You get a sweet teriyaki dipping sauce that is so good it should be illegal, a special house sauce, and you can even ask for gravy. Having three different flavor profiles for one chicken leg is the kind of luxury I did not know I needed for 210 pesos. It is a total "sulit" moment that makes you wonder why we ever settled for less.
Next up, I had to try the Egg Omelette Shrimp with rice, and this is where my mind was officially blown. At 195 pesos, I expected a standard small omelette. What arrived was a massive, veggie-packed, shrimp-filled masterpiece that could easily be shared by two people. If you are a fan of the classic Foo Yong from Savory, you need to hear this: the version at Family Fried Chicken is better. It is more substantial, the ingredients feel fresher, and the price point is almost unbelievable for the amount of food you are getting. It is rare to find a place that does not skimp on the actual "filling" of an omelette, but they really packed the shrimp in there. It felt like a home-cooked meal made by someone who actually wants you to leave full and happy, rather than a corporate kitchen trying to save three cents on every plate.
Then came the curveball: the Beef Steak Tagalog. Now, I am usually very picky about beef in mall restaurants because it often ends up being rubbery or chewy. However, this beef was so tender it felt like I was eating high-end Japanese beef rice toppings. The flavor was perfectly balanced, and it came with a side dip featuring anchovies, vinegar, soy sauce, and calamansi. That salty, sour, and savory combination with the tender beef was the ultimate "busog" experience. I find myself trying not to rate things too high because I want to remain objective, but Family Fried Chicken is truly an exception to the rule. It is the kind of place where you can bring your family or your "barkada" and know for a fact that you will not be embarrassed by the quality.
The service also deserves a massive shoutout because the staff and the cooks clearly take pride in what they are doing. In a world where customer service often feels like an afterthought, the team here was attentive and genuinely helpful. It adds so much to the dining experience when the people serving you actually seem to care about the food. I honestly cannot wait to go back and work my way through the rest of the menu. If you find yourself anywhere near Robinsons Metro East, do yourself a favor and skip the usual suspects. This is the place you want to be. It is affordable, it is beautiful, and most importantly, it is delicious. We need to support local spots that are actually putting in the work to provide quality food at prices that don't make us want to cry. Family Fried Chicken is the hero we didn't know we needed.
Consider the bar officially raised. If you aren't eating here, you're just paying more for less.
